Capt. Nasir Iqbal

Capt Nasir is Project Manager for UAE State Safety program and is also managing the Safety Risk Management Section at GCAA. He started his aviation career as a pilot in 1987 with Pakistan Air Force where he held various operational, command, staff and instructional appointments. In 2006 he joined commercial aviation and worked on instructional assignment with FTO and later joined business jet operator as post holder safety and line pilot. He joined GCAA in 2012 as Senior Safety Risk Specialist.

He is pioneer of safety performance measurement in UAE which he started in 2012 by designing a new methodology for measuring and managing safety performance. He educated UAE aviation industry on safety performance and also held training sessions for regulatory staff on monitoring of safety performance. His efforts in implementing safety performance measurement is helping UAE move towards establishment of Acceptable Level of Safety Performance (ALoSP).

As project manager for UAE State Safety Program (SSP), he was responsible for SSP development and implementation of applicable components. The project ran from 2010 to 2014. He is also credited with designing the SMS auditing and organizational risk profiling criterions for GCAA.

Capt Nasir is a graduate of Aviation Sciences and has post graduate qualifications in Aviation Safety from Embry Riddle University, USA. He is also pursuing his PhD in Safety Performance Measurement from London City University, UK. He holds numerous aviation safety, management, regulatory and instructional qualifications. He has represented and presented UAE State Safety Program, safety performance measurement and safety risk managementat various national and international forums.

Capt Nasir is also supporting development of SMS in UAE aviation industry through trainings and regulatory support.
