Cengiz worked initially as a certifying aircraft maintenance engineer and as a Quality Engineer for a multinational MRO organisation as well as a charter operator in the UK and subsequently held the Continuing Airworthiness Post Holder position for the same operator. He then joined City University London as a Senior Lecturer in 2008. Since then, he has also been working as a part time IOSA auditor at Wake QA. During this time, he had the opportunity to visit over 17 different airlines in Asia, Middle East, Africa and Europe. He is currently continuing his PhD focusing on risk perception and attitudes of pilots and engineers as well as organisational culture in the commercial air transport industry. He is a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a Chartered Quality Professional. He has been chairing the Technical Committee of International Federation of Airworthiness (IFA) since 2011 and representing IFA and City University in the European Commercial Aviation Safety Team (ECAST) & the UK Flight Safety Committee respectively.
